In honor of the MakingOurOwnSpace (MOOS) workshop's hard work this summer, we filled up Britt Oval with music, art, neighbors, and LOTS of fun this past Saturday for a one-of-a-kind celebration. MOOS has been working for months to create accessible outdoor furniture that will enhance the site, which is right across the street from Saint Luke's Foundation, and respond to the community's needs. The brightly-colored picnic tables, platforms, and bird houses have transformed what used to be a bare grassy lawn into a vibrant and dynamic space. We got to see some of their work in action on Saturday, as the team members gathered around to construct a raised platforms amid the bubbles and music. Joining us in celebration was Dee Jay Doc and the Fresh Camp, armed with original hip hop lyrics and a whole lot of spirit. Their message of Cleveland pride and community-building could not have been a better fit for the day's celebration! Amid all the action, a few MOOS workshop participants take the time to sit back and enjoy their creation. The dunk tank was a hit, especially when celebrities like Captain Sulzer volunteered as tribute. Sometimes the tennis balls didn't pack quite enough punch, and the kids had to resort to other methods of soaking their police force. Fortunately the Captain didn't hold it against them! This day could not have been possible without the ongoing support from and dedication of our partners. Many thanks to the following superstars: Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland Cleveland Neighborhood Progress Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative Saint Luke's Foundation Cleveland Police Foundation Fourth District Police Department We took SO many photos of Splash on Britt Oval, so be sure to check the rest of them out in our album!
