. . . because these kids draw a mean mural!Local artist Hector Castellanos worked with young artists at Zone Rec to bring the art of sidewalk chalking to new heights: sure, they stayed on the ground, but with special artists' chalk pastels, plus instruction on fading, color blending and creating boarders, these vibrant designs were really beyond the pale! . . . what they're saying:"We love art!" say siblings Marcus (left), Imer and Celeste.
"I make crafts all day if I can," Imer adds, "until my mom stops me!" Sweetly soft-spoken, Imer (a self-described "crafting fool,") has a way with words that's hard to place: it could be childlike sincerity or the tongue-in-cheekiness of a person many times his age. But one things that's definitely beyond his years is his ability to cooperate and work with others. Same goes for his brother and sister, all of whom paired up to make this weeks' spectacular visions in chalk. These kids are die hard fans of Zone Rec and its ample artistic outlets, so stay tuned for more fabulous creations from the three who plan to come back every week. Given the chance to do anything on site, what would they pick? "Plant flowers!" was the cry from Imer and Celeste in unison. "Cover that whole field in flowers," Imer edited, pointing in all earnestness. "The whole thing."
